POLICE have put a dispersal order in place across parts of Thurrock, Basildon and Rochford due to issues relating to large numbers of people on the roads in connection with horse and traps.

The order was put in place at 11am today (Sunday, 28 September) and will run until 11am on Tuesday (30 September).

The dispersal order focuses on a large section of the A127 Southend Arterial Road, but also includes parts of A13.

A marked map shows the areas included in the dispersal order. These include Basildon, Fobbing, Stanford-le-Hope, Orsett, South Ockendon, West Horndon, Dunton and Laindon.

Inspector David Darnell said: "This order gives officers the power to order a group of two or more people to leave the area if they are committing, or likely to commit, a criminal offence.

"This won't affect people going about their lawful business, but it is vital that our roads are safe and free flowing for all and we will act promptly to deal with any issues or concerns.

"Officers will be in the area to ensure this order is complied with and everyone is able to go about their day."
