POLICE have confirmed the death of a person on tracks close to Pitsea rail station.

Emergency services were called to the scene earlier this morning (Friday, 12 May) but despite their best efforts the person was declared dead at the scene.

The incident caused delays to some services including cancellations. Normal service was resumed by lunchtime.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Pitsea railway station at 9.05am on 12 May to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
