Details announced of Purfleet-on-Thames Jubilee event

PURFLEET-on-Thames Community Forum has registered to take part in the Queens Platinum Jubilee with a beacon lighting event on Thursday, 2 June. It will be one of 1,500 beacon lightings around the UK and Commonwealth.

The event will take place on the green next to the Royal Hotel and will start at 4pm with a street party. A number of live entertainments are planned, live music; brass band, gospel choir, silhouette artist, a bird of prey display, face painters, stilt walkers, theatre, carnival mascots, local flag display, bugler bagpiper, beacon lighting and a spectacular finale.

Community forum vice chair Trevor Batchelor said: "We are looking for stall holders who wish to take part.

"Any stallholder interested should contact the forum by email on [email protected].

"All applicants must have public liability and food hygiene documentation if applicable and stall must be self sufficient, with their own chairs, marquee (max size 10'x10ft).

"Stalls selling merchandise or food a fee of £20 is applicable."

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons across the country will be lit at 9.45pm on Thursday, 2 June.

Before that, at 2pm hundreds of town criers and 50 Pearly Kings and Queens will announce a specially-written Proclamation heralding the lighting of the beacons later that evening.

At 9.35pm local time across the UK and Commonwealth, traditional and Northumbrian pipers and pipe bands will play Diu Regnare, a unique tune specially-written for the occasion by Piper Major, Stuart Liddell, the world's leading piper.

At 9.40pm buglers linked to local beacon lightings across the UK and the capital cities of the Commonwealth will officially announce the lighting of the beacons with a specially written bugle call, entitled Majesty.

Then at 9.45pm to coincide with the lighting of the beacons, community choirs across all nations will sing Song for the Commonwealth, which has been written and composed by Lucy Keily, from Australia and Vincent Atueyi Chinemelu from Nigeria.
