POLICE have given details of a dramatic incident in Tilbury on Friday which saw a vehicle pursued by police before it rammed into an officer's car and its occupants fled.

Officers on patrol in Tilbury attempted to stop a van not displaying registration plates at around 5:45 on Friday, 2 June on Brennan Road.

The vehicle failed to stop for officers and was pursued down Tennyson Walk.

The police car was then deliberately rammed and the suspects left the scene.

Despite the presence of the police helicopter they could not be found.

A statement from police says: "This incident remains under investigation and no arrests have been made at this stage."

A witness to the incident told Nub news: "The driver of the van mounted the kerbs, and pathways of Parkside to get away from the police - barely missing two children!!

"The chase ended in London Road Tilbury near the junction of Hume Avenue where the van driver rammed the unmarked police car to disable the chase.

"The van braked hard and reversed at speed into the rear quater and caused extensive damage to the rear axle and quarter panel forcing the chase to end."
