By Neil Speight 4th Nov 2020

TAXI drivers joined a funeral cortege today (Wednesday, 4 November) to pay tribute to a former colleague.

65-year-old Norman Bullock was killed in an incident when his car was in collision with another vehicle on the A128 in the early hours of 5 October.

Mr Bullock worked for Grays-based Thameside Taxis and was well-known, liked and respected across the Grays community and fellow drivers turned out today to honour him.

The cortege left his home in Hathaway Gardens, Grays, this morning and wended its way through the town before travelling to Corbets Tey for a funeral service.

Tanya Harrington, a director of Thameside Taxis, said: "Norman had been with Thameside for eight years and was a great man who is sorely missed.

"Our drivers, and others from different firms in the town, wanted to pay their respects by joining the cortege today."

In a recent tribute, Mr Bullock's widow Moira said: "You were a kind a loving man, who worked hard all your life. You had a wicked sense of humour and a ready smile which I miss so much".

"You were the other half of me. Till we meet again. Love forever. Moira xxx"

She added: "I would like to express my thanks for all the lovely tributes, cards, and flowers".

"All the offers of help at this sad time, and a special thank you to Thameside Taxis for their support, help and care, especially Kevin Stoker who has been a real diamond."

A 21 year-old man – Edvinas Pupkis, of Devonshire Road, Ilford – has been charged with causing death by careless driving, aggravated vehicle taking death caused, failing to report a collision, failing to stop. He is next due to appear at Basildon Crown Court tomorrow (5 November).
