Drivers warned to be wary of standing water on busy road

RESIDENTS raised the alert this afternoon (Tuesday, 4 January) after almost the entire width of a busy link road was covered in standing water.

At least one vehicle was damaged when it hit a raised area that was covered by the water, while others more cautiously negotiated the tricky stretch of road on the approach to a corner of the A128 (Brentwood Road) just outside Chadwell St Mary.

The site of the rise in water was in exactly the same place where a burst water main caused its complete closure in October.

It is not known if this latest incident is a repetition of a problem with the main, a different leak or simply an accumulation of heavy rains which has collected in the adjoining field and eventually spilled over onto the road.

Water table levels in the area will be high at present because of recent rains and high tides which also precipitated [L]https://thurrock.nub.news/n/flood-warning-alongside-thames [L+]a red alert flood warning earlier today.

Residents have pointed out that the bend in the road has been a problematic area in bad weather for several years but little appears to have been done to try and mitigate the problem.

One resident contacted Nub news to say he had tried to raise the matter with Thurrock Council but had been told late this afternoon that it was not sufficient water to be a problem. Both the council and Essex and Suffolk Water, who repaired the main last year, have been asked to comment.
