A VOLUNTEER litter pick in Grays this morning (Saturday, 7 November) has been hailed a success.

The event at Badgers Dene was organised by local resident Emma Sanders and saw a community space at the end of Kiln Way cleaned up.

Emma said: "Thank you so much to all the local residents who helped to litter pick today!

"I can't believe how much we managed to find!

"The most worrying item found was a knife!

"We also found shoes, plant pots, a crisp packet from 1999, a gaming chair, a trolley, gas canisters, metal wires and of course the usual plastic and glass bottles.

"My son came and joined me for an hour or so and helped haul up a children's scooter.

"All the rubbish was just from this small area of greenery between Kiln Way and Hellborine.

The council should be collecting it later today.

"I'd love to organise another litter pick in another green space in Badgers Dene in a couple of weeks time."
