ENGINEERS from Essex and Suffolk Water have been working this afternoon and evening to fix a significant water leak which is affecting two key roads.

The incident is on the junction of Giffords Cross Road and Springhouse Lane in Corringham and water began flowing across them both in the later morning today (Saturday, 3 January).

Water continued to spill this evening.

When engineers arrived to assess the nature of the leak, which saw water shooting up through at least two outlets, they had to set up a traffic management system with lights on the busy junction.

The water company has acknowledged the problem but has not yet supplied details of a timescale to fix it - or if water supplies nearby will be affected.

However, residents in the area have reported contamination in their supply, with some taps running brown water.

Locally, advice has been given not to drink it.

The scene at 10pm on Saturday evening.

Workers at the site are using pumps to deal with the water running from the breach.
