POLICE have issued an appeal for witnesses as they look into what might well have been a serious incident in Grays yesterday when two vehicles collided on a busy road, in a crash which reportedly involves a speeding black 'sports car' which then left the scene.
The other vehicle contained two people who were described as 'in their seventies' but they emerged unscathed despite the gravity of damage to their car, which prompted a call to the fire service as it was thought they might need to be cut free.
The incident happened just after 2.45pm yesterday (Thursday, 7 July) at the junction of Bradleigh Avenue and Orsett Road.
An eye-witness told Nub News: "Myself, my mum and sister were waiting at the bus stop along Orsett Road near Bradleigh Avenue for the bus to turn up. A black sports car which was normal size went flying past and then hit another vehicle.
"Its driver and the passenger were in their late 70s, the passenger side door was badly damaged so I waited for the fire services to turn up. The person who had hit them was in a small black sports vehicle but it left."
A statement from Essex Police says: "We were called just after 2.45pm following reports of a collision in Grays.
"Two vehicles were involved, thankfully no one was injured. One vehicle left the scene prior to police arrival.
"Colleagues in the fire service and ambulance also attended.
