FOLLOWING last week's act of mindless vandalism via an arson attack at a community facility, volunteers have expressed their appreciation for a wave of support from local people, organisations and businesses.
Last Tuesday (30 September) Thurock Nub News reported on the late night fire set at Hardie Park in Stranford-le-Hope, which destroyed a number of benches and damaged parkland and trees.
The fire was tackled by Essex Fire and Rescue and an investigation is ongoing involving Essex Police.
In the wake of the attack the friends of Hardie Park, though their social media page, appealed for help.
And they have been delighted with the response.
A statement says: "Thank you so much to everyone who has shared kind words and support following the vandalism and arson.
"Your messages — and the generosity shown — have reminded us just how much this park means to our community.
"We're delighted to let you know that, thanks to a number of donations from local residents and a significant contribution from Coryton Energy (InterGen), we've already raised the full amount needed to replace the benches. They are now on order and will be delivered soon!
"What began as an incredibly disheartening and upsetting moment has turned into a powerful show of community spirit - thank you all.
"We can't wait to welcome you back to enjoy the new benches when they arrive.
"From all of us at Hardie Park — thank you for standing with us and helping keep the park a safe, welcoming space for everyone."
