Fruit and veg stall will be reopening soon - Homebase opens its doors

By Neil Speight 27th Apr 2020

AS local communities begin to think about returning to 'normal' and a possible end to coronavirus lockdown restrictions approaches a popular Thurrock food outlet has announced it will be reopening soon.

Roddy's Fruit and veg 'market-style' shop in Corringham is hugely popular and continued opening after initial restrictions were put in place but eventually, as reported by Thurrock Nub News its owner decided he had to put safety of his staff first and closed.

However, it is now hoped the stall and fruit and veg racks in the town centre off St John's Walk will be stocked up again in May, with the familiar 'market trader's cries' ringing out around the town.

Owner Paul says: "We have an understanding that we will go back to work within May.

"Days and times of opening have yet to be confirmed but we will look into return to work on the first week with in May then trying to provide as much fruit and veg as possible and will also have our plants baskets and bedding if available

"I hope everyone has remained safe through these difficult times and look forward to seeing you all soon."

The move towards a reopening of more stores is gathering pace. Among major retailers who have said they will be reopening,. Homebase today (Monday, 27 April) opened the doors at some stores, saying: "We are trialling the opening of 20 stores, with strict controls in place to ensure shopping is safe for everyone."

One of those stores is the one at Basildon on London Road, Pitsea, just off the A13 Five Bells junction near Fobbing.

Last weekend B&Q also opened its doors on a trial basis and it was particularly busy at the weekend, with long queues stretching around the car park at it West Thurrock store. It is still running its 'click and collect' service.
