MORE than 20 members of Grays Athletic Under 8 and Under 9 Girls teams (along with some of their siblings!) took part in the recent Race for Life 5km Pretty Muddy Kids run and obstacle course at Gloucester Park in Basildon.

Through their fundraising efforts, they raised more than £5,000 for Cancer Research UK - a massive achievement for those involved.

The girls battled pouring rain, along with the muddy obstacles to make their way around the 5km course, with parents and team mates cheering them on along the way.

All of the girls worked so hard and were so excited to receive their medals at the end. A special shout out to Tillie from the Under 9 team who was the first girl to cross the finish line in the club wave.

Rick (under 8 coach) and Mark (under 9 coach) said: "We are all so proud of the girls, they raised such an amazing amount of money for Cancer Research UK. For some of the girls it was quite emotional having lost loved ones to cancer.

"For a group of 8 and 9 year olds to run 5km, raise over £5000 and get soaked in the process, is truly inspirational, they are little superstars".
