NEW 20mph speed limits, speed bumps and the removal of some traffic islands are proposed as part of new roads plans in Stanford-le-Hope aimed at improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
Some of the work will take place on Wharf Road, a major trouble spot for traffic in the town because of the movement of HGVs to and from Stanhope Industrial Estate.
Corringham Road will also see changes, with raised tables on access roads from the south and the removal of a mini roundabout at the junction with Rainbow Lane.
If given the green light following a consultation period, the plans by Thurrock Council will be funded by the Active Travel Grant from the Department for Transport.
A council statement says: "These improvements aim to promote healthier lifestyles, reduce traffic congestion, and create a more sustainable environment for your community.
"Our goal is to develop safe, accessible, and efficient cycle routes throughout Stanford- le-Hope. These routes will connect DP World and the neighbourhood to Stanford-le-Hope train station, making cycling a more convenient and enjoyable mode of travel for all.
"As we move forward with this initiative, feedback is crucial.
"We want to ensure that the proposed cycle routes meet the needs and preferences of our community. We invite residents to share their thoughts and suggestions on the proposed routes and any other aspects of the project.
"You can participate in the consultation process in the following ways: Send your feedback to [email protected] or send it by post to Transport Delivery, Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, RM17 6SL
"The consultation period will be open until Monday, 1 July.
"Following the consultation period, we will review all feedback and make any necessary adjustments to the proposed cycle routes. We will then share the final plans with the community and begin the implementation phase."
"We are committed to creating a vibrant, cycle-friendly Stanford-le-Hope."
Ward councillor Ross Byrne said: "These plans include some significant changes, and I am sure there will be varying opinions.
"It's important that as many people as possible have their say.
"I hope residents take this opportunity to have input into the consultation, even though the timeframe is relatively short.
"If you wish to pass on your views via myself or fellow ward councillor Neil Speight please email us at [email protected] or [email protected] respectively."
