FOR the second day running Thurrock's under-threat Thameside complex was the subject of an emergency alert.

This evening (Friday, 10 March) the building was evacuated in the middle of a show by a touring Elton John Tribute production because of a fire alarm.

Also asked to leave the complex were local artists and cultural groups attending a 'Thurrock Can' meeting.

Yesterday the building was evacuated because of a gas leak.

Tonight's alarm saw people gather outside the building while the cause of the alarm was investigated and they were eventually allowed back in.

Thurrock Council's ruling group wish to close the complex, saying it is not a viable or sustainable community facility.
