A THURROCK primary school has announced it will be closed tomorrow (Monday, 16 March) and Tuesday for a deep clean after it was discovered a member of staff has had direct contact with a relative who has tested positive for coronavirus.

Mrs Joanna Bray, head of Thameside Primary School on Manor Road, Grays, has issued a message to all parents today announcing the closure.

She says: "We have been made aware this afternoon (Sunday, 15 March) that a member of staff has had direct contact with a relative who has today tested positive for Coronavirus.

"Although we do not have a confirmed case within the school community, in agreement with the Trust and the governors, we have decided to take precautionary measures to carry out a deep clean.

"Consequently, we will be closed tomorrow and Tuesday and will re-open on Wednesday 18 March. Please be assured that the staff member will be self-isolating and not attending work.

"I would like to reiterate the fact that we do not have a confirmed case.
