Groundworks on new waste station will be carried out by local company

A COMPANY with a borough-based operation has won the contract to carry out the next stage of work on the news energy facility recovery facility being built in Grays.
The site sits within the curtilage of the Port of Tilbury but is adjacent to Grays beach park and homes off Manor Way in Grays. It is next to the already functional Tilbury Green Power site, a renewable biomass power plant fuelled by waste wood
The new plant, which will burn black bag waste, will be operated by waste treatment specialist Viridor, which has announced Thurrock -based Statom Group to carry out early-phase construction activities on the site. It has been envisaged that access to the site, during construction only, will be via Grays.
Statom Group, which has offices in West Thurrock and an operationgs site in Grays, is a leading provider of residential and commercial civil engineering and groundworks services.

Paul Whelan, Statom Group's Managing Director added: "As a company based in West Thurrock, we are proud to be contributing to a project that will benefit the local community.
"We look forward to collaborating with Viridor and playing a vital role in the successful delivery of the Thameside ERF."
The Thameside Energy Recovery Facility will generate energy from residual black bag waste that cannot be recycled. Once operational, it will produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of 93,000 homes.
Viridor aims to reach commercial operation of the facility in 2028.

Patrick Daws, Head of ERF Projects at Viridor says: "We are delighted to welcome Statom Group as a key partner in the early development of the Thameside ERF.
