THURROCK-based members and supporters of the Re-engage charity have been busy in the past few days, ensuring that local older people who are on their own still have something special to look forward to at Easter.

The charity works within communities to end social isolation and loneliness in older people, encouraging those who live alone to develop social interests by bringing companionship into their lives. This is usually done through organising tea parties and events.

Because of the social distancing rules due to Covid-19 options for local volunteers have been limited but they still show their caring nature and for Easter have treated their tea party guests to a luxury Easter Hamper.

Regional co-ordinator Loraine Coleman says: "We have had to suspend all our tea parties and special events since March 2020 and this was a special treat for them all so they know we are always thinking of them and miss them.

"A big thank you to our fabulous volunteer group co-ordinators for purchasing all the hamper goodies and to our talented volunteer Maggie for making personalised Easter cards and Re-engage key rings. Also to our lovely volunteer host Nilopher Quamer from TeaLightful and her lovely family preparing all the hampers.

"And to all our volunteer drivers for distributing them in Thurrock, ensuring social distancing while having a long-awaited chat with our guests.

"Once again our fabulous volunteers, friends, local businesses and community groups have shown their huge generosity, enabling us to treat our guests for Easter this year. Thank-you so much, all of you. Wishing you all a peaceful, safe Easter."
