Home-to-flats plan comes with 'no cars' pledge

A THREE-bedroom house could soon be converted into two car-free flats under plans submitted to Thurrock Council.

The application, if approved, would see the home at 97 Orsett Road, Grays, converted into a one-bedroom flat designed for two residents, while the larger first-floor and loft-level maisonette could house a family of four. A separate application for the dormer conversion was approved by the council in June.

No parking spaces have been proposed as part of the development, with planning documents arguing the site is in a sustainable location and within walking distance of Grays railway station.

Supporting documents argue the scheme would make "efficient use of an existing building" by creating an additional home close to Grays town centre.

Developers say the site, close to the junction with Hathaway Road, is 500 metres from the station and close to local amenities, making it suitable for a car-free development.

Plans also include a rear extension, side extension and a loft conversion to create an extra living space on the upper floor.

The existing front entrance and hallway would remain a shared space, while each flat would have its own front door.

Secure storage for four bicycles is also proposed, together with refuse and recycling facilities.

Private outdoor space would also be created for both homes as developers plan to divide the rear garden.
