HORNDON'S Golden Jubilee celebration got underway this morning (Saturday, 29 June), with a church service and parade which were the prelude to two days of fun and community activity.

It will contine tomorrow, starting in the morning the the 10K run through the village and adjoining routes and - if an insurance wrangle can be sorted - conclude with the traditional tug of war between the Swan and Bell pubs.

One event that did go ahead todat was the boat race along Horndon High Road, with youngsters from Horndon Cubs and Scouts competiting to make a splash!

The event's new committee have raised concerns about insurance for the tug of war which takes place in the garden behind the Oster's restaurant, but earlier today saiud they hoped a solution could be found to allow it to go ahead.
