THE imminent threat of a chain of electricty pylons being built around the historic village of Horndon on the Hill was highlighted by campaigners at its annual Feast and Fayre.

The issue was featured recently on Thurrock Nub News in the latest of a series of stories about the plan by UK Power Netwrook to connect the offshore wind turbine fields in the North Sea in Suffolk and Norfolk with the national grid at Tilbury.

Known as the East Anglia Green project, the scheme was first announced in early 2022.

While whole villages in the north are up in arms, with placards adorning many local roads and the issue has been debated at a number of council meetings, it's been relatively quiet in Thurrock.

However, campaigners are hoping that over the weekend they will raise awareness and the number of objectors by highlighting how close it will come to Horndon and other green belt areas in Thurrock.

You can find out more about the campaign and sign a petition which alrady has more than 36,000 signatures here: https://pylonseastanglia.co.uk/
