EMERGENCY services including the air ambulance attended an incident in Stanford-le-Hope this afternoon.

It has now been confirmed by British Transport Police that the incident involves a fatality.

A spokesperson told Thurrock Nub News: "Officers were called to the line in Stanford-le-Hope at 3.06pm on Monday, 27 March following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The fatality happened at a point where there is a pedestrian crossing over the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A statement from c2c says: "Due to the police dealing with an incident between Pitsea and Stanford-le-Hope all lines are blocked. Train services running across the whole c2c network may be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Basildon.

Local social media commentary has named the victim, believed to be a 20-year-old local man.

Floral tributes have already been left close to the rail tracks.
