A YOUNGSTER from Aveley has treated her friends and peer group to a capital day out after being recognised, for a second time, in the prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards.

Fifteen-year-old Leighanne, was among 76 young people from the Guides, including many from Thurrock, who received awards at an event at Queens Theatre, Hornchurch, recently.

Achievement Award winners aged between 11 and 25 were acknowledged for their contributions to their unit, where winners received medallions and framed certificates from the Foundation along with a £300 grant for them to spend to benefit their unit.

In addition, seven adults were awarded Leader Awards for demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate young people. They each received a medallion and a framed certificate.

The Jack Petchey Foundation has invested more than £1.8m in Thurrock since funding started when it was set up in 1999 to support young people across London and Essex.

Leighanne attends Girlguiding Aveley 3rd and won her recognition for her outstanding leadership, positivity and unwavering support for those around her within the Guide unit.

Despite facing challenges in her own life, she leads her patrol with kindness and inclusivity, inspiring her peers through her encouragement, enthusiasm and infectious smile that helps everyone feel confident and valued.

On winning the award, Leighanne said: "It's an honour to receive my second Jack Petchey award."

Leighanne decided to spend her £300 grant on a coach to attend The Big Gig at Wembley Arena with her peers.
