A THURROCK woman is pulling out all the stops - and hitting the high notes - to support the NHS.
Kay Cecil of Wheatley Road, Corringham, has not been able to carry out her main job as a singer because of coronavirus, but she has not let her exuberant personality and energy go to waste, turning instead to fundraising for the NHS.
And she's also found the time to launch a new creative business.
Kay is a singer who often performs at local residential homes to entertain local older members of the Thurrock community and she performs professionally at clubs, pubs and private parties. With the lockdown in place she hasn't been able to do that but she's still been busy – and gets to keep her voice in trim by singing to the folks on her street.
She performed in Wheatley Road during the recent VE Day bank holiday and raised £200 which was added to the sum of almost £1,000 she has collected for the NHS and keyworkers by making and selling keyrings.
The money has been donated to Basildon & Thurrock Hospital.
And Kay's creative talents have been turned into her new business to offset the loss of income as a singer. As she is self-employed she has not yet been able to access any funding help.
Kay, who has previously volunteered to help teach art at Gable Hall School, specialises in doing acrylic art, particularly creating abstract canvases and other items. She has launched a Facebook page called Crazeekay Art where items can be viewed and ordered.
