A THURROCK knitting and crochet group raised £700 for the Royal British Legion's annual appeal this year by knitting and selling poppies.

Thurrock Nub News was on hand when the Needles and Chat group launched their effort in October by 'yarn-bombing' a Grays pub.

Now all the points of sale have been checked and collecting boxes returned and the group has announced its tally.

Organiser Susan Burns says: "We have raised £700 for the British Legion. I would just like to thank everyone who knitted a poppy, bought a poppy and all the new business in Grays which sold them."
