LIFEBOAT crew members, who are funded and supported from Thurrock, were captured on camera rescuing a man who had waded out into the Thames and got trapped in mud.

It has been reported the man has health issues but he was recovered safely and put in the care of ambulance teams. The rescue took place near the LV21 lightship in St Andrews Quay, West Street, Gravesend.

Three RNLI crew members from Gravened station were aboard the lifeboat at around 2pm on Friday, 14 January after being called to the man's aid. A spokesman for the station said he was recovered and handed over to paramedics and Kent Police officers.

It is 20 years since the lifeboat teams were set up on the Thames, with stations at Teddington, Chiswick and Tower Bridge as well as Gravesend.
