LOCAL charity Katie's Heart Appeal has handed over the latest portable defibrillator, wall bracket and resuscitation kit to be placed in the borough community.

It was given to the Tilbury Sea Scouts as part of the charity's "Defibs for Scouts" campaign which has been heavily supported by the Co-op Community Fund and Horndon 10k

This particular defibrillator was donated in loving memory of Maureen Hattam who passed away unexpectedly in May

Maureen was one of the cub scout leaders of the Tilbury Cubs for 20 years. Maureen's husband Des was a leader at the Tilbury Sea Scouts. She was very heavily involved in the Scouts guiding hundreds of children over the years.

The charity saiud: "Maureen was a pillar of our community and is very deeply missed.

"We hope, as always, this defibrillator will never ever need to be used but are so glad that the Sea Scouts accepted this donation to keep all their members, their families and the Scout leaders heart safe.

"If there are any other Scout groups in our area who do not already have access to a defibrillator please get in touch."
