A BUSY link road in Thurrock is being closed to allow Thurrock Council to dispose of hazardous waste which has been illegally dumped there.

Thurrock Nub News recently reported on problems linked to dumped lorry trailers on Sandy Lane at Aveley, which were highlighted when firefighters had to tackle a major blaze and the chair of the local community forum called for action

That call has now been met with action and from tomorrow (Thursday, 5 November) Sandy Lane will be closed to traffic while council crews deal with the waste.

The council says it has to close the road without delay because of the likelihood of danger to the public or serious damage to the road by the waste material.

While the road is closed the alternative route for westbound vehicles will be Romford Road, Aveley Road, Warwick Lane, Launders Lane and New Road, (A1306) and vice versa for eastbound vehicles.

Though the work is expected not to last more than a day, the council has made provision for the road to be closed up five days if necessary.
