As has become tradition, one of the first ceremonies on Remembrance Sunday took place in Little Thurrock this morning.

The parish war memorial at Turps Corner on the junction of Chadwell Road and Rectory Road is a small affair but is big-hearted - with an increasing number of local children attending alongside older residents and veterans.

The service was led by Grays Thurrock Royal British Legion chairman Rod Oakley, who picked out three names from the memorial and gave a short background to their life - and death in service.

Last Post and Reveille were played by Dave Honeywell of grays Town Band. The laying of wreaths was led by ward councillor Rob Gledhill.
