A FITNESS programme which has proved highly successful in 2019 is offering the opportunity for Thurrock men to join the programme.

'Shift the Timber' is a service run on behalf of Thurrock Council and with support from Thurrock CCG and provides twice weekly sessions for men.

Just over halfway halfway through a 12 month programme its first first evaluation of Thurrock members has produced 100% waist loss, gains in fitness and reductions in muscle loss.

The programme currently has over 30 men attending its two hours of moderate to vigorous exercise per week.

Among them is borough businessman and Royal British Legion stalwart Rod Oakley (pictured) who has already lost more than ten stone and is now playing competitive football as well!

And another local participant says: "This programme has given me a new lease of life in terms of regular exercise with the added bonus that it also involves playing football!

"Coaches Mark and Steve exhibit tremendous enthusiasm and their support and advice is benefiting everybody who is lucky enough to have signed up to this footy fitness initiative."

It's not just a kickabout though. Coaches Mark Courtnage and Steve Morgan are qualified senior football coaches and provide specific skills training alongside prescribed physical activity in order to maximise fitness and to reduce sarcopenia.

Sessions run on Mondays and Thursdays in Thurrock.
