Machete waved in Grays disturbance - four arrests follow

POLICE have thanked witnesses who have come forward after four people were arrested in the wake of a disturbance in Grays yesterday (Sunday, 17 May) in which a machette was brandished.

A man and three teenagers were taken into custody following the incident in Crammavill Street, Stifford Clays.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at around 4.30pm on Sunday after residents saw a machete being brandished in the street.

"Our officers responded quickly and, with the help of the British Transport Police, conducted a thorough search of the area.

"Three members of the group, an 18-year-old man, a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

"A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of affray.

"All four arrested are believed to be from the Barking area. They remain in custody for questioning.

"We would like to thank anyone who has come forward with information so far but, if you have not yet spoken to our officers and witnessed the incident, or have relevant dash cam footage or CCTV, you can submit information through our website or call Grays Local Policing Team on 101. The incident number to quote is 868 of 17 May.
