POLICE have announced the outcome of an appeal and subsequent arrest of a man wanted for theft from a store in Stanford-le-Hope.

The appeal was featured on Thurrock Nub News on Wednesday, 14 January and identified a suspect, James Alexander in connection with an incident in the Co-op store on the town's High Street.

Police said: "He went over the counter, started taking bottles of alcohol, also opened the till – taking a small amount of change."

A statement from the force today, Wednesday, 28 January, says he is now in jail for the crime.

It says: "We arrested 47-year-old Alexander, of no fixed abode, on 20 January, charged him with one count of burglary and two counts of theft from a shop, and he pleaded guilty the following day at Southend Magistrates' Court.

He was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison and ordered to pay £258 in compensation."
