Trial for offensive texts

A SOUTH Ockendon woman faces trial at Southend Magistrates' Court later this month on two charges of sending text messages which conveyed threats intending to causes distress and anxiety.

Amy Patricia Lewis, 21, of Corve Lane, was not in court when the charges were put before Basildon Magistrates but is directed to appear at Southend on 28 October.

A 15-YEAR-old youth from Corringham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will face trial at Basildon Crown Court later this month on charges of causing grievous bodily harm to another person and carrying an offensive weapon, a baseball bat, at intu Lakeside.

He was released on unconditional bail by magistrates at Basildon, pending his trial.

Martha Ernest, 40, of Argent Street, Grays, admitted stealing meat and other food goods worth £121.21 from Aldi in Grays and was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £130.

A STANFORD-le-Hope man who breached a family court order by making contact with a named person has been ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid community work.

Dean David Hayes, 42, of Cromwell Crescent, pleaded guilty when appearing by live link before Basildon Magistrates Court and was also ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £200.

KRYSTIAN Godek, 38, of London Road, Grays, admitted using threatening or abusive behaviour and was fined £120 with costs and a surcharge totalling £82 when he appeared before Basidon magistrates.

Paul Damien Steinbach, 55, of Freemantle Close, Tilbury, will face trial at Basildon Crown Court later this month.

He was remanded in custody prior to the trial because of the nature of the offences, which include assault, threatening behaviour, trying to intimidate a witness and perverting the cause of justice.

TILBURY man James Joseph Gray, 30, of Elgar Gardens admitted stealing meat from the Tesco store on Southend Road in Grays and two charges of using insulting or threatening behaviour.

He was remanded on bail for sentencing in November on condition he does enter the store, contact the victims of his threatening behaviour and lives and sleeps each night at his home in Tilbury.

STEVEN St-Croix Gussin, 47, of Eden Green, South Ockendon, will face trial in February next year after denying assaulting a man in an incident in South Ockendon in April.

He did admit to stealing two cans of beer, worth £1.98, from Smoker's Paradise in the town and will be sentenced at the conclusion of his trial, scheduled for Colchester Magistrates' Court. A TILBURY man will face trial in November charged with damaging CCTV cameras and other equipment and setting fire to a mattress belonging to Broad Reach Homeless Services.

Mahabeer Bahia, 25, of Canberra Square, was granted bail on condition he does not enter a named property or interfere with witnesses.

Motoring offences

MORE than a year after being caught speeding on four separate occasions on the A13 between Wennington and North Stifford, Ruth Peter Akpan, 52, of Bridgland Road, Purfleet, has been banned from driving.

She pleaded guilty at Basildon Magistrates' Court to the four offences which happened in August last year when she was travelling in excess of 60mph in a 50mph limit.

Akpan was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months and fined £40 with costs and a surcharge totalling £142.

AND speeding the same stretch of road three times, including twice in the same day in September last year, resulted in a ban for a 71-year-old Stanford-le-Hope man.

Roy David Allery, admitted three offences and was fined a total of £120 with costs and a surcharge totalling £142 as well as being banned for six months due to repeat offending.

REPEAT driving offender Ross Neil Whiting, 33, of St Margaret's Avenue, Stnaford-le-Hope, has been banned for six months after admitting his latest offence of speeding eight miles above the limit of the Southend Arterial Road.

He was ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £82.

Daniel Olumuyiwa Okah, 25, of Meesons Lane, Grays, will appear before Southend Magistrates' Court in December charged with a number of motoring offences including speeding and refusing to give information to police.

Jason Plom, 47, of Church Road, Corringham, will find out later this month is he is to be disqualified from driving.

He admitted speeding, eight miles above the limit, on Southend Road in Stanford-le-Hope and the case was adjourned until 14 October when Colchester magistrates will make a decision.
