A THURROCK resident has spoken of the moments when she went to the aid of a man stabbed in a local park.

The incident happened last week when Leanne Parker Griffiths responded to a young man, aged 18, in need.

Speaking from her home in Stifford Clays, Mrs Parker Griffiths said: "There was a fight on our street, the lad was banging on doors for help.

"My hubby saw it and went out. We brought the lad in and realised he had been stabbed.

"With the help of neighbours we treated him in our kitchen till the ambulance and police arrived. He was treated in hospital and released the next day.

"His family came round the next day and thanked us for saving his life."

Essex Police have confirmed the incident, saying: "We were called just before 11pm on Wednesday, 8 January, with reports that a man had been stabbed near Nutberry Park, Grays.

"We received information an 18-year-old man was assaulted by two men and suffered a small puncture wound to his neck, cuts to his cheeks and hands.

"The two men have been described as black, both wearing dark clothing.

"The first man was around 6ft  tall and the second was 5ft tall.

"Our investigation is going and officers are treating this as a targeted assault. The victim was treated for non-serious injuries.

"We would ask anyone with information, CCTV or doorbell camera footage to please call Grays CID on 101 quoting crime reference  42/4356/20.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
