ONE of two men who caused chaos on local roads when they scaled the QEII Bridge on October 17, 2022 has been released from prison today (Tuesday, 12 December).

Just Stop Oil supporter Morgan Trowland was released from HMP Highpoint in Suffolk at around 9:45am, 14 months into a three year sentence. He was sentenced in April 2023.

Trowland's sentence is the longest sentence in British history for undertaking nonviolent climate action. His fellow climber Marcus Decker was sentenced to two years and seven months, and he remains in prison, battling deportation to Germany due to a law that automatically deports foreign nationals sentenced to custodial sentences of more than 12 months.

The duo remained suspended from rigging on the bridge for 37 hours before being removed by poilice using specialist equipment and both were immediately taken in custody and have remained there until Trowkland's release today.

A spokesperson from Just Stop Oil said: "We're extremely pleased to see Morgan free once again. He acted with love, and was punished in a way that has terrifying implications for the rights of all people in the UK.

The fact remains that Marcus Decker is still imprisoned, and is facing the prospect of being torn away from his family, his friends, and his community. Automatic deportation is a cruel and unusual punishment. We urge everyone to sign the petition to stop Marcus' deportation."
