ONE of Thurrock's 'hidden gems' - The Purfleet Heritage & Military Centre – is back in operation after safeguarding regulations because of the Covid pandemic were relaxed.

The volunteer-run centre, which has now been established for 25 years within Magazine No.5 of what was once the Royal Magazine for Gunpowder situated on the banks of the River Thames at Centurion Way, Purfleet (RM91ZZ ).

Once again its doors will be opened to visitors, every Sunday, Thursday and bank holiday Monday, allowing access to the only historical building in the area that houses domestic and military history in one place.

The Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air force are well catered for in the centre with uniforms, artifacts and lots to look at.

And the opportunity exists to get even more involved as the centre is hoping to recruit more volunteers.

On Sunday (27 June) the centre will be marking the end of Armed Forces Week.

Founder Alan Gosling said: "If you are a veteran or still serving the arm forces why not come down and visit us on that day.

"If you would like to come down and help, volunteer please feel free to come and talk to us at Purfleet Heritage you are more then welcome."

Prospective volunteers can also call 01708 890874 .
