MEMORIES of yesteryear have been sparked by a restoration project that has brought a name from the past back to the roads of Thurrock.

Milk enthusiast and East Thurrock area community stalwart Paul Luke put the recent closure of his own delivery business behind him to co-ordinate the restoration of an electric milk float that is sure to evoke recollections for people in the Stanford-le-Hope area.

The vehicle, formerly used by Peacock Dairies, was little more than a shell when Paul discovered it a few years ago and he initially gave it to a friend to restore.

However, the restoration never began and recently the friend passed away, so in tribute Paul collected the float and began to restoration project himself, with the help of friends and some local mechanical expertise.

Now the vehicle is back on the road in its original bright yellow livery and while it won't be returning to the commerical business, it is set to feature in local shows and classic motor events.
