A BOROUGH school played host to the minister of state for education to highlight the work of its managing trust.

Dilkes Academy in South Ockendon, which is part of the Catalyst Academies Trust, welcomed minister Catherine McKinnell and Labour Thurrock MP Jen Craft and the visit featured classroom tours, a Q&A session with students, and in-depth discussions with CEO Tony Parfett, Headteacher Rhys Latham, and Deputy Headteacher Hayley Nye.

The discussions highlighted effective attendance monitoring and the Trust's commitment to inclusivity across its schools.

Catalyst Academies Trust also shared its expansion from a single school to five, showcasing how disadvantaged students are excelling due to high expectations and consistent teaching.

Students showcased their collaborative learning experiences, demonstrating the inclusive nature of their education. The visitors were particularly impressed by the achievements of the Personalised Learning Centre for SEMH pupils and the inclusive practices within the classrooms.

Mr Parfett said: "It was fantastic to highlight the expertise of our staff in addressing the needs of every learner."

Mr Latham added: "Our pupils were truly proud to welcome our visitors today and were enthusiastic about sharing their positive school experiences.

"They also appreciated the chance to ask Minister McKinnell about her role and her vision for the future of education."

Ms McKinnell said: "It was so lovely to meet staff and pupils, and to see and hear firsthand the enthusiasm for learning.

"This Government's mission is to break down barriers to opportunity, and making sure every child is in school every day is a key part of that.

"The dedication shown to making sure every child at the school, no matter their background or ability, is supported to succeed, really is impressive."
