More chances for repeat offender - and other cases from around the borough

A GRAYS man faces sentencing at Basildon Crown Court in the new year after admitting assaulting three men earlier this month (December).

Carl Lee, 28. from Falcon Avenue, admitted assaulting Stefan Ward, Charlie Garrett and Dean Cross in Grays on 1 December.

The offences meant he was in breach of suspended sentence set after he was found guilty of possessing an offensive weapon and assaulting an emergency worker.

He will appear at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday, 16 January but in the meantime he is out on bail, on condition that he does not get drunk!

A MAN who admitted committing thefts in Grays while serving a community order which barred him from attending the location where the thefts took place ended up in jail.

The restraining order came about as part of previous offences which included assaulting a police officer and causing criminal damage.

Nicholas Charles Jemson, 52, who was described to Basildon magistrates as being of 'no fixed abode' admitted entering a premises in Crammavill Street in South Stifford on Monday, 9 December and Tuesday, 17 December which he was prohibited from doing by a restraining order.

He admitted stealing cash, a necklace and aftershave valued at £220 from Michelle Walker, damaging a door belonging to her and assaulting her.

Jemson received a number of jail terms or differing lengths, some concurrent and some consecutive and in total will spend 12 weeks behind bars.

A TILBURY man who admitted a theft of Jack Daniels whisky from Morrisons in Grays but denied assaulting a man will face trial and sentence in the new year.

The incidents happened at Morrisons on 2 October this year when Kurtis Allison of Albany Road, Tilbury, stole the two bottles of whisky and is alleged to have assaulted Mr Sakib Kenjar.

He will reappear at Basildon magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 17 January. In the interim he is banned from entering the store - or contacting witnesses.

A POLISH woman who lives in East Tilbury has pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault and will face trial in February.

Wiolett Krol, 39, of Coronation Avenue denies assaulting Karen George and Terel Nugent on Wednesday, 30 October.

A GRAYS man has been sent for trial at Basildon Crown Court accused of supplying cocaine.

'JJ' (John John) Margetts, 32, of Whitmore Avenue, appeared initially at Basildon Magistrates' Court where he also denied failing to provide a specimen after being suspected of a driving offence.

He is due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday, 16 January where a third charge of trespass and stealing from a dwelling in Basildon will also be considered.

EIGHTEEN-year-old Mass Fye of Schoolfield Way, Grays, had admitting two charges of assault - including one of beating a police officer - and he will return to Southend Magistrates' Court in the new year to learn his fate.

Fye also admitted being in breach or a previous court order by failing to attend an appoint and fulfill an unpaid work commitment.

A SOUTH Ockendon man who has a litany of past convictions admitted two more when he appeared before Southend magistrates before Christmas.

However, despite him being in breach of a number of court orders, the magistrates have not lost faith in hope of rehabilitation and have given him yet another community order in which he has to carry out unpaid work in the community for 200 hours and attend a rehabilitation programme.

Aaron Hames Taylor, 27, of Gayley Green, admitted stealing goodS worth £201.60 from the Entertainer store at intu Lakeside and also stealing toys from Sainsburys in Southend worth £262. He was ordered to pay £201.60 to The Entertainer as compensation.

The court heard details of seven other incidents involving theft and motoring offences - for which he had been given previous rehabilitation programme orders and community work.

GIDDEON Nwongu, 45, a dual Nigerian and British citizen from Cowper Avenue, Tilbury, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving above the drink drive limit.

He will face trail at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 30 January.
