Motorbike rider injured after collision when van fled the scene

POLICE are appealing for witnesses or any information after a motorbike rider was injured in a hit and run incident in Grays yesterday (Wednesday, 18 May).

It happened around 5.35pm on Bridge Road when it was reported the bike was in collision with a black Citroen Berlingo which left the scene.

An ambulance, rapid response vehicle, senior paramedic in a support vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were despatched and the rider, an adult man, was transported to Basildon Hospital for treatment.

Police also summoned up a helicopter, the police craft spent some time searching the area for the Berlingo – though as yet it has not been traced.

A police statement says: "We are investigating a collision in Grays which has led to a motorbike rider needing hospital treatment.

"It was reported a black Citreon Berlingo had been in collision with a motorbike in Bridge Road at around 5.35pm yesterday (Wednesday 18 May). The Citreon failed to stop at the scene.

"We need anyone who saw anything or has any CCTV, dash cam, or doorbell footage to contact us.
