New radio service TAGs borough communities

By Neil Speight 7th Apr 2021

A NEW radio station which broadcasts online has been set up in Thurrock for the region's Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

One of the driving forces behind the station, called TAG radio, is borough councillor Bukky Okunade who says: "I'm proud to announce that Thurrock African Group has now launched TAG Radio. Despite setbacks and challenges, we have built our own full-fledged studio with the aim to empower the community by making your voices heard.

"Thurrock African Group Community Voice radio is a hub set up for the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicity to promote health, culture, crafts, career, community awareness and updates on the COVID-19 pandemic and Government Support.

"We will broadcast multicultural music, breaking news, updates on community and government affairs, live talk shows and non-profit entertainment.

"The TAG Radio project understands the impact of coronavirus on the BAME communities. Our presenters will be running live shows, speaking to COVID-19 survivors, health and well-being experts and enthusiasts on their experience and seeking their expertise advice.

"For relaxation and enjoyment, we are also transmitting a variety of African and other genres of music."

Cllr Okunade, the group's chairperson, added: "I would like to convey our thanks and gratitude to the National Lottery Community Fund for supporting 'TAG Community Voice Radio'. It has been a fantastic opportunity to connect with Thurrock's diverse communities, particularly those that have felt isolated during the difficult times of coronavirus pandemic and successive lockdowns.

"I would also take this opportunity to thank my team for their continued dedication and tireless work to ensure that TAG Radio became a reality.

"The financial backing has helped us fulfill our vision of supporting the community via the airwaves during the coronavirus pandemic."
