A NURSE living in Chadwell St Mary who was jailed after driving her car over a police officer who had stopped her for speeding has been barred from nursing.

Abiola Akilla drove her car forward, striking PC Caroline Green and knocking her down before driving over her chest and leg and leaving the scene.

The officer sustained serious injuries and was lucky to escape with her life.

Akilla, a cancer nurse who had never passed a driving test and did not have insurance, had been pulled over on the old Stanford Road close to Orsett Heath, as she had been driving at 51mph in a 40mph zone.

Reviewing Akilla's conduct, a Nursing and Midwifery Council misconduct panel decided that Akilla should be struck off.

The panel said her actions had been "a significant departure from the standards expected of a registered nurse".

The panel also found that she applied for a job at a nursing healthcare agency in London in 2021.

She had failed to tell them she was subject to an investigation by the NMC and was the subject of an interim suspension order.

A report stated: "The panel determined that the appropriate and proportionate sanction is that of a striking-off order.

"Having regard to the effect of your actions in bringing the profession into disrepute by adversely affecting the public's view of how a registered nurse should conduct yourself, the panel has concluded that nothing short of this would be sufficient in this case."

Akilla served 15 months of a 30 month jail sentence.
