LOCAL residents are reminded of the ongoing consultation from government about the future of local authorities in Essex.
In January, after receiving feedback from residents, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will make a decision on which recommndations from councils across the county it will support.
Four proposals have been submitted by different local authorities in Essex.
Thurrock Council, without support from any other council, has proposed an option for four new unitary councils in which it will partner with Brentwood, Epping and Harlow. The council says it aims to strike the right balance between councils that are financially sustainable while remaining close to the communities they serve. Read Thurrock's proposal here.
Basildon Council is one of ten councils supporting the creation of five new unitary authorities - with Basildon and Thurrock being partnered. Read that proposal here.
Residents, businesses and local organisations are invited to share their views on the options and help inform the Government's final decision.
The consultation is open until 11 January.
