Final preparations were being made this evening for the 116th Orsett Country Show, which opens its doors tomorrow (Saturday, 7 September) at 9am.

It's been a hectic last week for organisers of the show, sponsoired by the Port of Tilbury, particularly as they had to scramble to get in some new attractions because a ban on moving cattle, sheep and other hooved animals due to the bluetongue outbreak.

However, show secretary said all the hard work has paid off and the show is ready to go with a wide range of family attractions including exotic animals to replace the cows, sheep and llamas.

If you book online by midnight tonight concessions remain available but at the gate tomorrow it is £18 for adults, £15 for concession. Children under 16 with an adult get in free and there is no charge for parking.

The numerous marquees around the Orsett Showground will host agriculture, hobbies & handicrafts, crafts, horticulture, Essex Beekeepers Association and an education zone among attractions.

This year the Horse Section has more events so there will be lots of competitions going on in the arenas.

The star attraction in the main arena will be the Bolddog FMX Motorbike Display team while the Bravo Equestrian Theatre Show showcases the elegance and agility of horses.

Sticking with tradition, vintage and steam vehicles will parade, alongside classic cars. Displays will be given by the Imperial Birds of Prey and Essex Police Dog Display Team will also show off their skills.

You can test your skills with axe throwing or take to the skies with helicopter rides offering breathtaking views. Indulge in delectable treats from The Pantry, explore unique crafts at the Craft Fair, and ensure the little ones have a blast with the vibrant Kids Section featuring face painting, donkey rides, and a funfair. Rail operator c2c has sponsored free train rides around the showground.

There will be plenty of trade stands.
