PLANS have been submitted to Thurrock Council to turn a former village pub into a private residential home.

Approval in principle for the conversion has already been granted but the new owners of the Kings Head at West Tilbury believe their new proposals will add to the character of the building and hark back to its origins.

The pub closed several years ago and the building has been vacant since 2014. An attempt by villagers to buy the building and turn it into a community asset failed to gain significant momentum and failed.

The new proposal involves changes to the layout of the internal walls, demolition of a toilet extension to the property on the east elevation plus the removal of

a small buildings to the rear of the property.

A statement from the owners to the council says: "There will be no significant changes to the external aesthetic of the property.

"We propose to uniform all windows on all elevations to match the sash windows on the south elevation of the property.

"This will improve the street scene and create a more visually appealing elevations, that are more true to the original design of the property.

"The front door will be put back to its original location between the two bay windows on the southern elevation, with the bay window where the door is currently located, to be reconstructed back to its original form."
