Parade and service at Chafford site where American pilot died

YOUNGSTERS from local schools, scouts and guides and service organisations took part in a parade from Woodside primary School ahead of a service of Remembrance in Chafford Hundred today (Sunday, 9 November)..

The annual event takes place on Kershaw Close, named after 2nd Lt Samuel E Kershaw, an American pilot whose plane crashed on the site in February 1945. he was serving with the 55th Fighter Group of the US Army Air Force.
Civic dignitaries including borough Mayor Cllr Sue Shinnick and Thurrock Council leader Lynn Worrall were joined in laying wreaths by Thurrock mayor Jen Craft and other councillors and represenatives of service organisations and youngsters from schools and groups across Chafford.
Prayers were said by Rev Kate Carter. Music was provided by Spectrum Brass Band.
After the service, refreshments were served at Warren Primary School.
