Park improvements set to start across Thurrock
By Nub News Reporter 12th Apr 2026
RESIDENTS across Thurrock are set to benefit from a wide range of park and play area improvements, following extensive community feedback gathered through three public surveys led by Thurrock Council.
Work is due to start tomorrow (Monday, 13 April) on the first project in Tilbury.
Hundreds of responses were received, helping to shape plans that will enhance play, fitness, and accessibility across local green spaces.
Based on residents' views:
- Corringham Town Park will see new outdoor gym equipment installed, along with upgraded safety flooring to support safe and active use.
- Dilkes Park will benefit from new play equipment and improved accessibility, ensuring children of all abilities can enjoy the space.
- Centurian Way Park, Purfleet on Thames will be enhanced with a new outdoor gym, accessible play equipment for all ages, and a new footpath to improve access. These improvements have been developed in close partnership with the Purfleet on Thames Community Forum, whose involvement has played a key role in shaping the plans.
All projects are funded through developer contributions and are scheduled for completion by Summer 2026.
Further investment is also being made at Tilbury's Anchor Fields, funded by the Tilbury Town Fund, where anew play area design has now been finalised following community consultation.
The upgraded space will feature a wide range of modern, inclusive equipment designed to support children of all abilities. Plans include:
- Improvements to some existing equipment
- Inclusive swings and roundabout
- Climbing structures and balance equipment
- Slides, rope climbers and agility features
- Sensory and low-level play elements
- Equipment designed to support a wide age range, from toddlers to older children
The design places a strong emphasis on accessibility, with features such as inclusive seating, varied play types, and equipment that encourages social and physical development.
Kompan has been appointed as the contractor to deliver the works, which are due to begin on 13 April 2026 and are expected to take approximately three to four weeks to complete.
