MORE detail has emerged about last night's (Friday, 31 October) incident at East Tilbury rail station, including confirmation that a person died.

Exactly what happened remains sketchy, though British Transport Police (BTP) are continuing to investigate the incident, which happened around 8pm.

The c2c line between Pitsea and Grays was closed while the incident was investigated and a body recovered.

It reopened about 1.20am today after a BTP forensics team completed its work.

A c2c spokesperson said: "There was somebody who was struck by a train down at East Tilbury Station yesterday and sadly died. One of our trains and a freight train were involved at the time."

British Transport Police say: "Officers were called at around 7.55pm on Friday (31 October) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at East Tilbury railway station.

"Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries into the circumstances leading up to their death are ongoing."
