Piling work at port is now complete
By Nub News Reporter 13th Mar 2026
DP World London Gateway Port has announced it has now completed preparatory piling work on its new berth construction site on the Thames near Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham.
Over the past few months, since August, residents have been disturbed by the loud sound of the piles being driven into the riverbed on the site of the new Berth Five.
The piling was carried out during restricted times but nevertheless has been a significant disturbance to many local people - and it was scheduled to continue potentially for another year.
However, the piling work has been completed well ahead of those estimates.

A statement from the port says: "As we continue progressing the development of our fifth container berth at London Gateway, we are pleased to confirm that the marine piling works have now been completed, marking a significant milestone in the project.
"The construction of the new quay wall, including the installation of steel tubular piles, has been a major component of these works. All piles have now been successfully driven, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and support throughout this phase.
"Once operational, the new berth will boost the local economy, strengthen supply chain resilience, and increase capacity to accommodate the world's largest vessels.
