A PLAQUE is to be unveiled in Tilbury next week to honour the memory of a stalwart of the town.

Peter Hewitt MBE died in May this year, prompting many tributes for his service to the area.

He was a founder and much-admired long time member of the Tilbury Riverside Project and he was honoured by the Queen with an MBE for his work on behalf of local residents.

On Friday (9 October) next week a ceremony in Civic Square will see the unveiling of a plaque recording his service to the town.

Residents are invited to attend the ceremony at 11am but to respect social distancing guidelines and to wear masks.
