Police confirm death of man in river incident

POLICE have confirmed the death of a man after an operation involving all of the emergency services by the Thames at Grays yesterday (Tuesday, 2 February).

The incident was centred on Bexhill Drive where police, firefighters, the ambulance service, representatives of Essex Air Ambulance and the RNLI were involved after a man was reported in the water.

A statement from the police today said: "We were called to concerns for the welfare of a man in water near Bexhill Drive, in Grays, shortly after 4.30pm on Tuesday, 3 February.

"The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to Basildon Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

His death is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."

The East of England Ambulance Aervice issued the following statement: "We were called to Bexhill Drive at around 4.30pm yesterday following reports that a man had been pulled from the water.

"We sent various resources, including our hazardous area response team, two ambulances and a car from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. Crews treated a male patient at the scene before transporting him to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further assessment and care."
